How a rebuild goes
Diagnose and quote
Fluid, codes, road test. If the unit needs a rebuild, you get that price before it comes out of the car.
Remove and tear down
The transmission comes out and is disassembled on the bench: converter, pump, clutch packs, planetary sets, valve body, pan.
Inspect and replace
Soft parts are replaced from the rebuild kit. Hard parts (planetaries, drums, shafts) are measured and replaced only when they're actually worn.
Reassemble, install, road test
Fresh filter, gasket and fluid; the unit goes back in and the vehicle is road-tested before pickup.
What goes into the rebuild
Rebuild kits are Transtar. Torque converters, when replaced, are Dayco. Both are the brands the shop has listed for years, not whatever was cheapest that week.

Rebuild vs. replace: which is better?
A rebuild keeps your own unit and replaces only what's worn, which is usually the lower-cost route when the case and hard parts are sound. A replacement (remanufactured or used unit) makes sense when internal damage is extensive. The teardown inspection decides.
How long does a transmission rebuild take?
Customers report about 3–4 days. The shop confirms a date when it quotes; parts availability for your model can move it.
What is a Transtar rebuild kit?
A kit of the soft parts a rebuild needs for your specific transmission: friction plates, steel plates, bands, seals, gaskets and filter. Transtar is a national transmission-parts supplier; the shop has used its kits for years.
Do you rebuild CVT transmissions?
Call the shop with your year, make and model. CVT and some newer units are handled case by case.
Will I get a price before you take it apart?
Yes. The rebuild price is quoted after the diagnosis and before the unit comes out of the car.
